GModPatchTool (formerly GModCEFCodecFix) is a free, open-source patching utility for Garry's Mod, developed by Solstice Game Studios. It patches Garry's Mod by updating and improving the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF), fixing common launch and performance issues - especially on Linux, Proton, and macOS. CEF is an embeddable, open-source version of Google Chrome used within Garry's Mod as its built-in web browser, enabling media-playback gamemodes and addons such as YukiTheater, Cinema, and Media Player to function. Among its improvements, the tool enables proprietary video and audio codecs, enables Software WebGL, improves texture update performance, and can fix issues with Steam Overlay and performance tools such as MangoHud on Linux. It also improves the appearance of Legacy VGUI and fixes debug and console fonts for Proton users, and adds various options to assist multi-GPU users in directing Garry's Mod to the correct GPU. The tool began life as GModCEFCodecFix, written in Python. It was later rewritten in Rust and renamed GModPatchTool, bringing significantly improved download and patching performance, better handling of upstream Garry's Mod updates, and a greatly reduced likelihood of antivirus false positives. The project is open source and provided free of charge to the Garry's Mod community.
