Open Vehicular Epic 4 June 2023
2023 · NeedForMadnessExpert/Ryan Albano
This is the 4th June 2023 update. "Open Vehicular Epic is a 3D vehicle emulator based around intense gameplay, programmed in an epic, unreal style. More than 50 vehicles have been added over the years, with each one having its own abilities, learning curve, and character. This leads to gameplay that is both fun and dynamic, yet still demands intelligent strategy from the user in order to win. Multiplayer support exists, though port-forwarding or a VPN service is required." "OpenV.E. is programmed in pure Java(FX) and does not utilize any game engines. This has been a central ideology behind the development, with benefits including a unique experience and easy source access for anyone to fully modify the project as they wish." "Open Vehicular Epic is a non-profit, open-source Gradle project. As of this writing, you will need an IDE to run it." ------------------------------------------------- CHANGES A new steering parameter 'speedBasedTurnSubtract' has been created. This has been applied to Thrust SSC and allows the vehicle to turn sharply at low speeds, yet level out for better control at higher speeds. The game's steering has not changed like this in years, so this experimental enhancement could prove a big advantage on Thrust SSC! The World's Biggest Parking Lot map no longer loads on low-RAM devices, preventing crashing The map has also been converted into a hangar, thus now called "V.E. Hangar" A 'brightness control' feature has been added, allowing the user to compensate brightness issues for their monitor Fixed a problem that caused AI nukes to attack prematurely instead of waiting Gun Turret and Rail Gun's reticles have been changed, as they again stopped rendering. It's been an ongoing problem, hopefully now resolved for good. A new vehicle parameter, driverViewNearClip() has been added. See the user-vehicle for more info. New map! (Matrix 5x5) Cube track parts will now block vehicle shots. This is a huge potential improvement ------------------------------------------------- HOW TO RUN Upon downloading the zipped game, the inner folder 'Open Vehicular Epic' needs to be extracted before trying to run the project. Then, use an IDE such as Netbeans to run the project: https://netbeans.apache.org/download/index.html Launch Netbeans, go to File > Open Project, and select the extracted 'Open Vehicular Epic' folder. JDK 24 is recommended for this V.E. release. Right-click on the project in Netbeans and go to Properties > Build > Gradle Execution > Manage Runtimes > Add Platform. From there choose one of the methods to attach the JDK of your choice to V.E. Upon correct JDK attachment, you should be able to do Run > Run Project (VehicularEpic) or press the F6 key to launch the game. PLS NOTE THE PROJECT WONT BE ABLE TO RUN WITHOUT RUNNING AS A GRADLE PROJECT IntelliJ may also work for Windows users: https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/#section=windows Contact Ryan Albano at RyanAlbano1@gmail.com, if you could not get the game running.
