GameKeys

1995 · MS-DOS · Vitorio Miliano

GameKeys is a DOS text mode application from 1995. It is a compiled QuickBASIC application that presents formatted text files containing "cheat codes" for video games. It was originally released as shareware with a US$5 registration fee. This is the fully registered version. GameKeys was my first attempt at publishing shareware and getting involved with video games. I didn't know enough to make a video game, but I could dial into BBSs, and read Usenet through AOL, and republish the cheats that others had found in a single place, with a nice interface, and the promise of regular updates. It was originally written in QBasic, included with DOS at the time, until a friend gave me a copy (likely itself pirated) of QuickBASIC to compile it with. I believe the "missing" cheat listings in this copy are ones intended for the registered version, but which I never wrote up. GameKeys received a single shareware registration. I did not deposit the check, and the application was never updated beyond the initial release, because I was 14 and ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . To the extent possible under law, I waive all copyright and related or neighboring rights to GameKeys. This work is published from: United States.
