Insane 2 demo

2011 · racing · Windows · Targem Games

The demo release of the 2011 racing game Insane 2 by Russian developer Targem Games. Insane 2 (stylized as In2ane ) is the sequel to Insane (stylized as 1NSANE ) by Hungarian developer Invictus Games. It features 10 game modes, with nearly all from the original making it here; six classes of three cars each; 20 locations across five continents, with Eurasia counted as a single continent; a lengthy career mode, and an eight-player multiplayer mode. If there is one thing that Codemasters could learn from the game, it is that it should be more careful to whom it decides to license its intellectual property, including the Insane trademark. While the graphics are on par by 2011's standards, which admittedly deserves praise since its predecessor's have always been fair and today do not hold up at all, the sound effects and music leave something to be desired. More importantly, this game careens so far off from the original and also the spiritual successor to the series, Terep 2 , that one can only guess what Targem intended to create with the license. Driving on the flat terrain is a surprisingly dull experience; the damage modeling and effects on vehicular performance are poor; the new game modes are of mixed quality, being largely derivative and with only one guaranteeing enjoyment (Zone Patrol mode is pure chaotic fun, Pursuit is controversial); and worst of all, the Terep 2 -derived mode of traversing maps with no end goal is nonexistent. It is unsurprising a consensus has emerged from Hungarian critics declaring Invictus's Insane the better of the two games. In short, this heavily-arcaded racer should have been released under a different brand and certainly for less than €28. In case you are wondering, yes, this demo is in Russian, but don't worry. This game does not require a high level of proficiency in the language, and we have online resources such as dictionaries and (not so reliable) machine translators anyway. The difference between the demo and the full release is that there are only five vehicles instead of 18, the career mode has only roughly 14 races (I could not quite confirm that without playing the demo) instead of 170, and there is no multiplayer mode. The Quick Race mode is also limited to five game modes instead of 10 and to three maps on one continent instead of 20 across four continents. This demo first appeared on now-defunct Russobit-M's official website . It needed to be downloaded elsewhere, that being Playground.ru , which fortunately continues to mirror the application as of this upload. All the screenshots are preview shots downloaded from the archived Russobit-M website.
