Qixie is a Qix-inspired arcade game for the Commodore PET , created by Milasoft . The project began after Roman Werner released a PETSCII Qix-style game for the Commodore 64. Rather than simply compiling an existing BASIC version, Milasoft ultimately built the PET version from scratch in 6502 machine language . The goal follows the classic Qix formula: move around the border and draw lines into the open playfield to claim territory while avoiding the moving Qix and enemy sparks. Technical / gameplay features: Qix-style territory-capture gameplay Written for the Commodore PET 6502 machine-language implementation PETSCII / character-based graphics Custom line-drawing and trail system Flood-fill territory capture 16-bit flood-fill stack implementation Enemy sparks that travel around the border Moving Qix-style enemy with variable movement behavior Machine-language arcade gameplay rather than a BASIC conversion The flood-fill system marks the open side of the playfield using an invisible shifted-space character and fills the remaining enclosed area after a player completes a line. The game also tracks directional movement so that PETSCII line characters connect correctly while the player draws. Controller note: SNES-controller support was removed from the current release because the implementation was not working reliably. Official release file: Qixie v1.1.d64 If this Internet Archive item contains only Qixie.zip , extract and upload Qixie v1.1.d64 as a separate file to enable browser emulation. Qixie is a modern Commodore PET homebrew game for fans of Qix, territory capture games, PETSCII graphics, 6502 programming, retrocomputing, and vintage Commodore software.
