DOSGAME.AT NCAA: ROAD TO THE FINAL FOUR - LOADER DESCRIPTION This loader for NCAA: Road to the Final Four provides a clean way to disable the game's manual copy protection. Unlike simple protection bypasses, the loader also handles the game's hidden delayed protection correctly. The loader currently supports two known original releases of the game: v 01-23-1992 v 04-15-1992 The correct protection patch is selected automatically for the detected NCAA.EXE version. LOADER FEATURES F1 - Disable Protection Completely bypasses the manual word lookup protection in the original NCAA.EXE. The protection screen is not displayed. NCAA: Road to the Final Four contains an additional delayed protection mechanism which performs hidden checks during later execution of the game. A simple bypass of the visible manual check can leave an invalid protection state behind. This may result in gameplay problems such as incorrect passing and catching behavior, control problems, or freezes. The DOSGAME.AT loader does not simply skip the visible protection check. It initializes the protection state with the correct value expected by the game's internal protection system. The original delayed checks therefore continue to execute normally without modifying the game's internal state. The modification is temporary. After the game exits normally, NCAA.EXE is restored to its original state. F2 - How To Play Displays the original keyboard controls directly inside the loader. The help screen includes the offensive and defensive keyboard controls, the alternative numeric keypad layout, and useful game menu keys. Press ENTER or ESC to return to the loader. INSTALLATION 1. Copy LOAD.COM into your NCAA: Road to the Final Four game directory. 2. Make sure the original NCAA.EXE is located in the same directory. 3. Start: LOAD.COM 4. Set: F1 - Disable Protection to YES . 5. Press F2 at any time in the loader menu to display the keyboard controls. 6. Press ENTER to launch the game. PLEASE NOTE The loader is designed for the supported original, unmodified NCAA.EXE versions listed below. Do not rename NCAA.EXE. The loader automatically detects the supported game version and verifies the original protection bytes before applying the appropriate patch. Modified, cracked, or unsupported versions of NCAA.EXE are rejected. The original game executable is restored after the game exits normally. TECHNICAL NOTE NCAA: Road to the Final Four uses more than a simple manual lookup screen. During the manual check, the game generates an internal protection checksum. Several additional routines later compare this value against an internal table. If the expected value and the stored protection value do not match, the resulting difference is added to internal game-state data. This explains why some simple cracks may appear to work initially while causing seemingly unrelated gameplay problems later. Both supported versions contain five hidden delayed protection checks. The DOSGAME.AT loader supplies the expected checksum from the game's own internal table before continuing through the original validated program path. The delayed protection routines themselves remain untouched. Separate protection locations and internal addresses are used for each supported NCAA.EXE version. The loader detects the installed version and uses the corresponding protection patch automatically.
