When Fallout 1 was first released back in 1997, the disc it came with included an extra folder called GOODIES. The folder contains an early game engine prototype from 1994 during the earlier stages of development. It can be played thanks to the DOSBox emulator. A Windows 95 nuclear-themed screensaver was also included by the developers. While not originally part of the folder, a copy of DOS32A (renamed to DOS4GW) has been included for the game to run properly in DOSBox. See Fallout developer Tim Cain's talk on the game's development , with details of the engine prototype discussed at the 15:00 minute mark. Here's a short video demonstration of the prototype.
