aMpSuX

1995 · Windows · MS-DOS · VR · Jeremy W. Kaufmann

aMpSuX, also known as AMP Killers, was one of the first video games I ever made. I was probably all of 14 years old, possibly younger, when I made it. It was actually a present for my mom who was extremely frustrated with a garbage Point of Sales program she had to use as part of her job. Long short short, hop in a chopper, fly to the headquarters of said POS POS vendor, set a bomb, and blow it up. This was made in Virtual Reality Studio 1.0 (the North American commercially available version of the Freescape game engine) and yes, it was a legal copy I got bundled with the book Garage Virtual Reality by Linda Jacobson. I recommend running this in DosBox or PCEm or on a real 486 in MS-DOS 6.22 or Windows 95's DOS mode. Works fantastic on the ao486 core in MiSTer FPGA as well. The AmPsUXDOSBOX.zip includes a pre-configured DosBox. Just run ampsux.exe. If you want to go old school, download aMpSuX.zip instead and extract that to your MS-DOS or Windows 95 or whatever computer. The executable program ampsux.com expects to be run from c:\ampsux so if you run it from any other directory, you'll instead need to do: runvga ampsux.run I strongly recommend selecting serial mouse as your input method. Controls are: Left mouse click: fire weapon Right mouse click: activate I key: forward M key: backwards J key: turn left R key: turn right Space bar: fire weapon U key: turn 180 degrees N key: rotate view clockwise Escape key: start the game over C key: remove (or restore) crosshairs F key: strafe left D key: strafe right P key: look up Shift + escape key: quit
