Math Cubes Sample

Windows · Jonathan Frank

"I need to refresh my knowledge of C++, and I would like to have a recent project that I can show to prospective employers. Let's make a game ... how hard could it be?" Two and a half months later, kind of exhausted ... but it's finally finished! In the game of "Math Cubes", your goal is to move cubes from your inventory into the equation to make the equation true. Use addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and algebra to solve the puzzles. The game comes with ten levels, but I have provided instructions on how to make your own. Since this is a Win32 console application, you control the game by entering text and typing commands. Given the nature of this game, it would greatly benefit you to peruse the "READTHIS.txt" read-me file and in-game help screens. If you know some stuff about how computers work, and are comfortable using command-line interfaces, you will have an easier time playing this game. Still, the in-game help system will teach you how to use the game's commands. This game was inspired by the equation puzzles in the "Cube Quest" minigame of "Math Blaster: Ages 9-12". When I was in fifth grade (late 2000), LONG before I learned how to program, I invented my own version of this puzzle, "Cubes" (which I later renamed "Math Cubes"), which people played using pencil and paper. This game is free and open-source; use it and its code for any purpose you like. You can run "Math Cubes Sample.exe" on any modern version of Windows. I used Dev-C++ 5.11 to make this program. P.S. I made 32 additional levels for this game, which you can download here !
