Battle for Moscow

1993 · MS-DOS · Stephen Balbach

Battle for Moscow is a DOS game released in 1993 into the public domain with full source code in C. The maps and rules are based on the Frank Chadwick boardgame of the same name. Chadwick wrote the game as an introduction to wargaming - it has a small map, simple rules and few counters and can be played in under an hour, but retains classic wargaming mechanics and strategy. This version is 2-player or can be played solo by playing both sides. I wrote the game during college in the late 80s and early 90s to teach myself programming. The rules are basic; 1 counter per hex. Each unit has 2 steps and can be rebuilt with Replacement Points. Enemy ZOC stops movement. Mud rules for turn 3 and 4 when movement is reduced to a single hex. The game ends when Germans occupy Moscow. There is a bug when combat results in an exchange the attacker doesn't loose any steps, this gives an advantage to the Germans. I hope to fix it but presently don't have access to Turbo C and DOS.
