This is a modern version of the Faust legend. The stage actor Henrik Hofgen, who is well-regarded by critics, grows tired of the light entertainment theatrical conditions and seeks something more revolutionary in the spirit of Brecht. Despite these fresh ideas, fame does not embrace him. Desperate, Henrik sells his soul, but not to the Devil, but to the Nazis, as his thirst for fame outweighs his hatred for the conquerors. Only later, fully under the heel of the Third Reich, does he realize his mistake... Adaptation of Claus Mann's novel 'Mephisto: The Story of a Career.'
