Oberst Redl

1984 · biography · drama · history · Иштван Сабо

This event in 1913, just before World War I, shook Europe. Alfred Redl, head of the Austro-Hungarian army's intelligence, was exposed as a traitor and committed suicide. What caused the betrayal? Historians, journalists, cinema, and theater have repeatedly addressed this story, which remains unsolved to this day. Hungarian director István Sabo and Austrian actor Klaus Maria Brendauer presented the story of a man who began his service as a loyal subject of Emperor Franz Joseph and ended with betrayal of everything he loved and revered.
