1950s. Polish immigrant engineer Jan Bojarski — a brilliant inventor whose system has closed all doors to earning a living by profession — cannot obtain patents in France for his numerous inventions. The man begins counterfeiting currency and does it so perfectly that the French Bank is willing to pay any reward for his capture. Now Jan: his family has no idea, and a seasoned police inspector Matte is following him, driven solely by the goal of catching the person he can only identify by the handwriting of his 'work'.
