ALL MY CHILDREN 1990 #1 Jan 02 thru 14 (16.9 GB) ALL MY CHILDREN - 1990s At the time of Felicia Minei Behr's hiring in early 1989, the show usually ranked around #4 in the ratings. By 1990, it had inched up to the #3 spot. Billy Clyde Tuggle returns to Pine Valley in 1990, after a ten-year absence (in prison). He proceeds to undo the lives of many in Pine Valley. He tells his daughter, Emily Ann Sago, that he is her natural father, devastating her with the truth that she was the product of rape. He dies tumbling over a bridge (with Tad Martin), ending the reign (MAYBE!) of one of Pine Valley's most evil & entertaining characters ever. The show's most popular sequence debuted during the week of the 20th anniversary in January 1990. The new opening kept the photo album theme, of course, but expanded on it. It began with the camera panning across a desk featuring framed pictures of longtime cast members. This dissolved into a series of animations in which still pictures of each cast member hovered into piles on the desk. It ended with a portrait of lead actress Susan Lucci slowly sliding onto a page in the photo album, as it closed to reveal the title in an Old English type on the cover. Occasionally, the title would disappear from the cover and a sponsor's logo would be in its place, with the announcer doing an ad for the sponsor. Behr (who was All My Children's executive producer from 1989-1996) was responsible for this opening, and thought a change was desperately needed to bring the show into the '90s. As popular as the opening was (it was a genius idea in that the set-up allowed everyone from contract cast members to recurring cast members to be included), the theme music was even more popular. Written by legendary television composers Robert Israel and Billy Barber, it began with a perky melody led by piano, which gave way to a stylish saxophone leading the tune. The theme song was identified with the show's glory years of the early '90s. **SOURCE Wikipedia *AMC 1990 partial SYNOPSIS, beginning with brief 89 RECAP, leading to the 90s Adam hired Dixie to be Laura's nanny (Brooke's daughter), and Dixie stayed on as a servant after Laura was killed by a drunk driver. Adam wanted a son desperately, but Brooke was unable to give him one. Adam was determined to produce his own blood heir, so he slept with Dixie in the Chandler boathouse and she became pregnant. Dixie gave birth to Junior in 1989, and Adam plotted to secretly adopt him. Brooke would never know the child was his. But when Junior was born, Dixie refused to give him up, demanding that Adam make a choice between her and Brooke. Adam told Dixie she was his choice. Brooke overheard their conversation and was disgusted. She packed her bags and went to Jackson Montgomery, who helped her win half of Adam's fortune. Scrambling to secure his legacy, Adam promised to marry Dixie. He then attempted to drive Dixie insane and get her to commit herself to Laurel Hill, a mental institution. If his plan was successful, Junior would be solely Adam's. Tad realized what Adam was up to and helped Dixie escape from the hospital. Tad and Dixie married in 1989. Chuck returns to Pine Valley in December, 1989. He is immediately drawn back to Donna, and she to him. She has long-since forgiven him for the past, and they fall more in love than ever before. Benny, who doubts Chuck's feelings are sincere based on past circumstances, is not happy that Chuck is back in Donna's life. Chuck is irritated by his suggestion, and says that the ending of Benny's marriage is his own fault. Donna soon tells Benny herself that she is free to see whomever she wants, and that she wants a divorce. Chuck and Donna continue their relationship, agreeing to keep things quiet for awhile for her daughter's sake (Emily Ann is still hoping her parents will get back together). Emily Ann inadvertently finds out before long, though. While she doesn't take it very well, Donna feels she'll get used to it before long. Much to Phoebe's disgust, Chuck asks Donna to remarry him, and she agrees. Much to Donna's horror, Billy Clyde Tuggle (Estelle's ex-husband and Emily Ann's father) returns to town that year, after being released from jail. He had been serving time for raping and attempting to murder his wife, Estelle. He has a grudge against Donna, and threatens to tell Emily Ann that he is her natural father. Donna, against her better judgment, agrees to take money from Phoebe to pay Billy Clyde off, under the condition that Donna will not remarry Chuck. Donna breaks her engagement to Chuck, but can't tell him why she won't marry him. Donna gives Billy the money, and he says that he will leave town quietly. However, he doesn't keep his word. Before long, Chuck discovers himself that Billy is back in town. When Chuck finds out about Phoebe's involvement in the whole situation, he warns her to stay out of his life and tells her that he will marry Donna no matter what. Then all hell breaks loose.
