Chef comes complete with 26 recipes files containing several hundreds of recipes. With Chef you can search through all of these recipes in several different ways. The keyword retrieval algorithm allows selection of recipes by assigned keywords, ingredients, and title words. In addition, once you found a subset of the recipes with the specified keyword, you can prune the list down by specifying a further selection criteria. So you could find all recipes with CAKE as a title word and BERRY as an ingredient. In addition to using these disks as a reference cookbook, you can add your own recipes. Merely use your own editor to append the recipe you want to the end of one of the recipes data files. Check the format of the last recipe in the file to see where to put the title, ingredients, and keyword lines. Because there are too many recipes to fit on one disk, Chef is being distributed on two. Chef runs best, and fastest, from a hard disk drive, if one is available; copy the Chef files from the INFO-1a diskette into a single subdirectory of the hard disk, then rename the recipes files on the INFO-1b diskette from RECIPES.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 to RECIPES.19,20,21,22,23 24,25,26 and copy them to the hard disk. One of the problems which Chef does have is how it utilizes multiple floppy disks. The best way to avoid the problem when not using a hard disk is to run Chef only from the disk which contains the recipes you would like to refer to. To this end, the Chef program is included on both distribution diskettes.
