INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR GoldStar 32-BIT VL-BUS DRIVERS ===================================================== GoldStar VESA Super IO Card comes with one set of software device drivers, the GoldStar 32-bit VL-BUS DRIVERS. It is an intellegent software component for the VESA Super IO Card. It acts as an accelerator and provides the following functions: (1) Auto-detection of harddisk configuration (2) Self-tuning of data transfer speed (3) Full 32-bit disk data IO handling (4) Fast speed multiple sector data access The VL-BUS DRIVERS are provided in a diskette and includes the following three files : GS_DOS.SYS Software Device Driver for MS-DOS 3.3/4.01/5.0/6.0 GS_WIN.386 Virtual Device Driver for MS Window 3.0/3.1 README Installation Guide for CompassLab SMART DRIVER The design methodology of GoldStar 32-bit VL-BUS DRIVERS is "East-to-install". Its installation procedure is as easy as just adding one statement in the system configuration or initialization file in your computer system. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR MS-DOS _________________________________ 1. Copy the file GS_DOS.SYS from the diskette to your system disk (Usually C:) 2. Add one statement in your existing system configuration file (CONFIG.SYS) as follows : DEVICE=C:GS_DOS.SYS If you don't have your CONFIG.SYS file, please create a new one and type the above statement in the file. 3. Reboot your system and a prompt message will come out GoldStar 32-bit VL-BUS DRIVERS installed Rev. 1.21 Copyright 1993, GoldStar Electron Co.,Ltd All procedure is completed. You then work normally. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR MS WINDOW ____________________________________ 1. Copy the file GS_WIN.386 from the diskette to the Window SYSTEM sub-directory in your working disk drive. (Usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\) 2. Modify the Window System Initilization File (SYSTEM.INI), which is usually located in the sub-directory C:\WINDOWS\. 2.1 Search for [386Enh] section. Usually, you get 32BitDiskAccess=OFF device=*int13 device=*wdctrl 2.2 Change "OFF" to "ON" in the 1st statement. 2.3 Modify the 3rd statement "device = *wdctrl" as device=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\GS_WIN.386 2.4 Finally, you get following new statements 32BitDiskAccess=ON device=*int13 device=*C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\GS_WIN.386 2.5 Save the modified SYSTEM.INI file in your working disk drive. 3. Start up WINDOW again. The VL-BUS DRIVERS will be automatically installed in your system. You then work normally. For some cases, the VL-BUS DRIVERS cannot be installed. An error message will come out ERROR!!! GoldStar 32-bit VL-BUS DRIVERS cannot be installed. Please check and re-try again. Then please check your hardware whether it works properly. Once you fix it, please try again.
