This is a copy of Microsoft's USB 2.0 Drivers for Windows XP. This is version 5.1.2600.1 of the drivers, and it comes from a Dell Optiplex ResourceCD from October of 2004. From the README: Note: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 has integrated USB 2.0 support. This driver is only needed for Windows XP versions prior to Service Pack 1. Introduction This kit contains the following: a. USB 2.0 EHCI package b. QFE fix for existing USB driver stack on Windows XP Both packages need to be installed to support USB 2.0 on windows XP. It is extremely important that you run all 6 steps below. USB 2.0 ECHI package The USB EHCI package contains the Enhanced Host Controller mini-port driver. The INF file is responsible for loading the USBEHCI.SYS host controller miniport on a Windows XP system, and the host controller coinstaller (HCCOIN.DLL) is responsible for synchronizing communication between the Enhanced Host Controller and the companion host controllers. QFE fix for existing USB driver stack on Windows XP The QFE package is responsible for updating USBPORT.SYS and USBHUB.SYS on Windows XP. Localized versions of this package only differ in terms of the QFE installation user interface (UI) displayed during package execution. Installation 1) From Device Manager right-click on the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller with the Yellow Question Mark next to it. 2) From the drop down menu select Properties, click on the Driver tab and select Update Driver . 3) From the Hardware Update Wizard screen select the Advanced option and choose Next . 4) From the next screen deselect all options except for Include this location in the search , browse to the location in which the driver files were extracted, select the EHCI Package folder and choose Next for the files to be installed. 5) By choosing Finish the first part of the installation is complete. Important! You must complete Step 6. 6) Navigate to where the extracted files are located, from the QFE folder execute Q312370_WXP_SP1_X86_ENU.EXE and follow the onscreen instructions. Reboot system to complete installation. Package Contents The USB 2.0 EHCI package consists of the following files: USBPORT.SYS USBHUB.SYS USBEHCI.SYS HCCOIN.DLL USB2X.INF USB2X.CAT The driver is not designed for use on Windows XP SP1 or later, but may be useful if you're intending on using a system with no service packs for historical purposes.
