FPS60 Last-Minute Information for Release 1.5 This file contains information which could not yet be included in the manual. MediaCache MediaCache sets up a buffer in the main memory (RAM) of your PC system that is reserved for AVI file data. When an AVI file is opened, MediaCache reads the data of the first frames into the buffer. The buffer is freed as the AVI file is played. New AVI file data is then read into the buffer once sufficient CPU calculating time is available to guarantee that the display and playback of the AVI video is not jeopardized by data transport from the hard disk to the buffer. MediaCache is designed to keep the buffer as full as possible in order to guarantee a constant data flow to your video card and thus jitter-free video display and playback. The following aspects must be complied with in order to be able to use MediaCache: MediaCache only runs under Windows 95. MediaCache only functions with AVI files, which have been compressed in M-JPEG format. MediaCache supports the playback only and not the recording of AVI files. MediaCache must be started before the AVI file is loaded for playing. MediaCache can only prevent jitter/juddering which develops during playback without MediaCache. MediaCache cannot eliminate jitter/juddering which was caused during the recording process. Finally, in order to use MediaCache, you need an adequate system and main memory. AVIWarp AVIWarp is a utility to "clean up" AVI files. Some programs output AVI files which are not suited very well for the Media Cache. Use AVIWarp e.g. for changing the audio interleaving factor. Cropping The new MJPEG capture driver now enables to do vertical and horizontal cropping on the video input. Use the respective sliders in the video format dialog box. The cropping settings are being saved in the captured AVI file. When making movies with your video editing software, please verify that the input size equals the output size. Otherwise you will get very long rendering times and loose quality since the video will be recompressed. Thus it is recommended that you choose the same capture settings for all clips of a movie. Capturing in Adobe Premiere If you intend to capture movies in Adobe Premiere, make sure to enable the option "Always disconnect capture driver" in the preference section. Better Win 95 Support For better integration in the Win95 environment, a Win95 virtual device driver (FASTML.VXD) and Win95 inf file (FASTML.INF) have been added to the software. This enables Win95 to manage FPS 60 resources (interrupt channel and port address) and avoids conflicts with other devices. If you didn't follow the instructions during software setup, you still can register FPS 60 with the Win95 device manager. Start the " Add new hardware Wizard " by pressing the Start Button and then selecting Settings / Control Panel. To save time answer "no", when you're asked if windows should look for the new hardware. Then choose the section " Sound, video and game controllers " and afterwards " FAST Multimedia AG - FPS 60". You can inspect the Movie Machine II resources, by going to the Systems Properties in the Control Panel. Select " Sound, video and game controllers " in the Device Manager. Doubble click on the Movie Machine II entry and you'll get the resources and information about possible conflicts. This is also the place where you can manually change the resources. New Installation Path: Under Win95, the FPS 60 software is now installed into C:\Program Files\FAST\FPS 60. Improved Performance: The FPS 60 drivers initialize noticably faster than in earlier versions. Also, under Win95 FPS 60 is being initialized during boot time. Rendering time of clip images in video editing software is now much faster. New Video for Windows driver: For applications without MJPEG compression, a non MJPEG based VfW driver has been added to the new software release. The driver mm2_avi.drv is located in the windows system directory. You should uncomment the line msvideo = mm2_avi.drv in the system.ini file to enable the driver. M-JPEG Extension users, who also want to use this driver, should uncomment the line msvideo1 = mm2_avi.drv in the system.ini file. In many capture applications (like MMCAP32) it is possible to switch between the installed drivers. FPS60 Last-Minute Information for Release 1.05 New version of Movie Capture for Windows 95: For optimal support of Win95 hard disk access, a new 32 bit capture application has been installed if you are working in a Win95 environment. This application improves performances especially when using IDE drives under Win95. If you are using a separate hard disk (e.g. drive D:) for video capture, you may get best results if you select "capture to memory". In this case you have to set virtual memory to this drive. In the current version the options described in the manual "best quality" and "best framerate", are not supported, yet. If you would like to use these options, you have to work with the 16 bit applica
