Super ResEdit
1994 · utility · application · J. Scott Howlett
SuperResEdit was a version put together by someone other than Apple, that had some additional templates (which are now outdated) and came with a utility called Forker. Forker is a System extension that lets you edit the data resource with ResEdit. ...at some point also (unofficially) known as ResEdit 2.1.4 There is very little information available about these unofficial versions. Uploader's Note While the author of Super ResEdit seems to be unknown, the program was distributed with a system extension called "Forker" which was created by J. Scott Howlett in 1993. Maybe these were created by the same person? It's not clear. On the classic Macintosh, the file info dialog box has a description field just under the filename which can display arbitrary information. Sometimes it's copyright info, sometimes its the program's name, sometimes it's something else. It seems to be arbitrary and varies greatly from program to program. Super ResEdit displays: "E.T.O./MPW Pro #15" I have no idea what this means. While I no longer remember exactly where I found my copy of this program, I've had it for a long time and it seems likely that I downloaded it from Hotline, an online file-sharing program for the classic Mac which also had a ton of pirated software available to download. Hotline was included on the CD of MacAddict issue #30. Super ResEdit was present on some Hotline servers. https://cdn.preterhuman.net/texts/computing/hotline_info/info_on_SADwyw/10_items_for_all_servers.txt https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotline_Communications Original Readme Super ResEdit 2.1.3 This is a severly enhanced version of Apple's ResEdit What's different? Well, Super ResEdit will let you view code, not in hex, but it will de- and recompile all hex code so all you c++ hackers can go to town What else? Super ResEdit will let you play sounds and adjuts sounds(all) without extracting them to a different format. That's IT????? nope, did you ever want to edit a datat fork but didn't have the know how? now all you have to do is double click the resource. done! WELL, how do I make it work???? easy.. just drop the "forker" extension into the system folder(restart), Put Super ResEdit where you would like it and go to town! Trouble shooting... If S.R.E (Super ResEdit) has trouble opening a file: 1) Assure that the file is not in use 2) The preferences file.... OK the perf file is a pain with this version, so if it gives you problems, just rename another preferences file to resedit perfs, (or what ever i called the silly thing) and run S.R.E you may get an error about the perfs file, but just ignore it and go on. All Mods to ResEdit making it SuperResEdit were okayed by Apple.
