Fix-It Utilities 4.0 Manufacturer: Ontrack Data International Date: August 08, 2001 Build: 4.0.0.12 Source:Web Download Version Protection: N/A Serial: N/A NOTE: Fix-It was originally published by Vertisoft in 1995. In July 1996, Quarterdeck acquired Vertisoft Systems. In 1998, Quarterdeck was acquired by Symantec. Soemwhere around this time, Mijenix marketed it as Fix-It Utilities 99. In 1999, Legato Systems acquired Ontrack. Somewhere around 2003, Fix-It Utilities was acquired by V Communications (later V-COM), who was itself then absorbed by Avanquest - which is where all once popular utilities go to die. Fix-It started out as a single program, which focused most of its energy on Registry issues - a common occurance and a side-effect of the Windows 95 rollout. After, and with each new publisher, more and more "features" were added, almost as if they had dug around someone's kitchen junk drawer - all to capitalize on the emerging "Utilities Suite" market that Symantec fairly well dominated with Norton Utilities. Others in this market segment included Nuts & Bolts, First Aid, SystemSuite, Check-IT, McAfee Utilities. BLURB: Fix-It Utilities 4.0 optimizes and tunes up any Windows system, including XP. It gets under the hood of a PC providing easy, one-step maintenance wizards, an early warning for hard disk failure, high-performance disk defragmentation, virus protection, a bootable rescue CD, registry cleaning, advanced do-it-yourself file recovery, a clock synchronizer, PowerDesk file manager, and much more. Four easy-to-use FixWizards lets you fix, clean, and optimize your system or perform an all-in-one system tune-up automatically. Use JETDefrag to speed up program launch time and open files faster. Collect and log all Windows error messages to aid in troubleshooting system problems. Detect hard drive problems so that steps can be taken to protect valuable data before it is lost. FileUndeleter and EasyRecovery Lite provide extra insurance in case of an accidental file deletion, a virus attack, or a reformatted disk.
