Sony Vaio VGN-AR61E Drivers & Utilities for Windows XP These are Windows XP 32bit drivers for the Sony Vaio VGN-AR61E notebook. They are a mix of drivers from various other Vaio models and some tweaks to get this machine 99% working with Windows XP (except the brightness control and the S1/S2 buttons). The AR61E officially ONLY support Windows Vista 32bit. I grabbed these from a Sony FTP mirror, since Sony has shut down official driver downloads a few years ago and these are very hard to find. Credit for the hotkey functions comes from: https://web.archive.org/web/20090114044327/http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=213580 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Install Windows XP ================== 1. Set the IDE mode in the BIOS to AHCI. 2. Use nLite to integrate the SATA txtmode driver from AR6_SATA_DRIVER_INTEL_RAID.ZIP into your Windows XP installation media. 3. Boot from the media created with nLite. If you have a USB floppy drive, you can also copy the SATA drivers onto it and use the F6 button when prompted with a retail Windows XP installation disc. Audio drivers ================== 1. Install the update KB888111 (not needed with XPSP3). 2. Install the official Realtek HD Audio driver from wdm_r255.exe (Sony's driver is too old and crashes with a BlueScreen) 3. Install the SigmaTel driver from FZ19_XP_DOWNGRADE_AUDIO.zip 4. Import the pin.reg and reboot the computer. (The pin.reg is imported from the Vista driver. Without it, sounds will always play through the headphone jack AND the internal speakers.) 5. Go to the audio control panel and set "SigmaTel audio" as the default output device. Graphics ================== 1. Extract the GRAPHICS_DRIVER_NVIDIA_6.14.11.7698.ZIP somewhere. 2. Run the setup.exe and continue when being warned about unsigned drivers. (The nvsz.inf had to be modified with the hardware ID's for this notebook, which breaks the driver signature) 3. Reboot. Hotkeys / OSD ================== 1. Install the SFEP driver from the SFEP_DRIVER_SONY_8.0B_8.0.0.1.ZIP. (Extract - Right Click on SFEP.inf - Install) 2. Install Sony Shared Library from AR61 Sony Shared Library 4.1.zip and restart when prompted 3. Install Sony Utilities DLL from A4 Sony Utilities DLL.zip 4. Install Setting Utility Series from AR41 Setting Utility Series.zip 5. Install Vaio Event Service from BX4_VAIO_EVENT_SERVICE.ZIP. (Select Custom and Check VESUnique and Sound) 6. Copy AR61 Vista VESConfig.ini to folder C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Event Service 7. Start - Run services.msc 8. Find Vaio Event Service in the Services list and Restart the Service. 9. Install Vaio Control Center from BX4 VAIO Control Center.zip The OSD and volume buttons should now work. Sadly, I couldn't get the S1/S2 and brightness controls to register. Webcam ================== 1. Extract the driver from CAMERA RICOH 6.1006.209.0_LOGO.ZIP. 2. Go to device manager and find the generic USB video device. 3. Update it's driver and point it to the R5U870FL.inf. (Continue when being warned about unsigned drivers) 4. Install the Vaio Camera Capture Utility. Your camera should now work. Card reader ================== 1. Install the driver from MEMORY CARD READER WRITER DRIVER TI 2.0G - 2.0.0.18.ZIP. 2. Extract the msicon.zip, copy the snymsico.dll to C:\Windows and import the two .reg files by running them. The card reader should now shop up in Windows Explorer, with a Memory Stick icon. Additional drivers ================== After following the steps above, just install all of the rest of the drivers from the "All_Other" directory to make the system fully functional.
