MiniTool Palette

1995 · operating-system · utility · HyperSTUff

The MiniTool is a small 2 1/2' by 1/2' palette with nine icons. Combining modifier keys with single clicks allows you to perform over 50 different navigation and authoring tasks. The palette is completely 'self-contained' and requires no additional stack scripting; just copy its three resources into your Home stack, type 'palette miniTool' in the Message Box, and away you go. Using combinations of modifier keys and single clicks, MiniTool can take you to the 1st card, previous card, recent card, 1st bkgnd, previous bkgnd, next card, last card, next bkgnd, last bkgnd, or any stack window. It can open a stack, open the Recent display, push a card, pop a card, start using a stack, stop using a stack, close open windows, hide all HyperCard windows, open ResCopy, open ResEdit, open any other application, open any stack's script, rush you Home, open Home's script, call GetHomeInfo, and do several other things. Stealth mode lets you set lockMessages to true via a modifier key, while you click any palette icon; a real lifesaver when a resumeStack or openCard handler has run amok, or when you're checking out someone else's stack and want to avoid transition effect scripts, 'security' handlers, etc. Of course, if you don't mind adding about five lines of code to your Home stack script, you can also use the MiniShow XCMD, which keeps the palette 'pinned' above the center of the current stack. (Of course, it's smart enough to take the title bar and menu bar into account, and it never lets the palette become lost chasing off-screen card window locations). Complete documentation is in the stack, and the palette displays a comprehensive Help window with a single click. The stack, palette, and MiniShow external require HC 2.0 or higher. A couple of bonus externals that work with HC 1.2.2 or higher are also included. Grokware -- if you 'get' it, you can keep it.
