This CD demonstrates some programs that can be used to ensure privacy on the internet and to exercise your rights according to copyright laws. Polippix is an open source and completely free distribution of Linux derived from the Kubuntu operating system and designed to be used by German-speaking users on home or office computers. It uses KDE Plasma as its default and only desktop environment. The OS is distributed as a dual-arch Live CD Polippix can be downloaded via Softpedia or directly from the project’s homepage (see link above) as a dual-arch Live CD ISO image of approximately 700MB in size, which fits perfectly on a CD disc. It can also be used from a USB stick and supports both 32-bit and 64-bit computers. Boot menu à la Kubuntu Linux The boot menu of the Live CD looks and acts exactly like the one of the Kubuntu Linux distribution, allowing the user to choose a default language for the live system, try the distro without installing it, start the installer directly, boot the live system in debug mode, perform a memory test, boot an existing OS from the local drive, as well as to check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a CD media). KDE Plasma looks great, optimized for desktop use The default graphical session is powered by KDE Plasma, which has been optimized for desktop use. It comprises of a taskbar located on the bottom edge of a screen, from where the users can easily navigate the main menu, launch applications, interact with running programs, as well as to cycle between virtual workspaces and access system tray functions. Contains mostly KDE-specific applications Being based off of Kubuntu and built around the KDE desktop environment, the Polippix distribution contains mostly KDE-specific applications, among which we can mention the Gwenview image viewer, Okular document viewer, Twinkle SIP softphone, KTorrrent BitTorrent client, Konqueror web browser and Quassel IRC client. In addition, the Mozilla Firefox web browser and Mozilla Thunderbird email client are also included.
