Nexus-CORE is a Linux desktop that explains itself and asks before it changes anything. This is the light edition, LXQt on Fedora 44, for older computers from 2 GB of RAM. Free and open source (GPL-3.0). Preview 3, nexus 0.1.49, released 18 October 2026. The first update brings it to 0.1.50 or newer. New in Preview 3: - Install next to your Linux: the installer finds the other system, takes only the free space (30 GB or more in one piece), and leaves the other system untouched. Nexus starts first afterwards. Tested next to Linux Mint on a real laptop. - "sudo nexus dualboot add --apply" puts the other system in the boot menu; "sudo nexus dualboot 1 --apply" restarts straight into it, once. Secure Boot stays on. - Nexus Shop: apps from Flathub, Fedora and RPM Fusion side by side, with what Nexus suggests and why. - Brightness keys with an on-screen bar. - Updates show their progress; the history marks an update "applied" after the restart. Before you install: - An EMPTY disk is used whole. Next to another Linux (UEFI, GPT disk, 30 GB free in one piece), Nexus uses only the free space. If anything else is on the disk, Windows included, the installer asks before touching anything. Dual boot with Windows is not supported. - When installing next to another Linux, do NOT open "Installation Destination": go straight to "Begin Installation". - This is a preview made by one person and tested on a few laptops and virtual machines. Back up anything that matters. Needs: 64-bit PC, UEFI, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB disk.
