Commodore 64 Disk Copier Archive - Top Secret Stuff I and II

utility · application · Commodore 64 · Megasoft · Jim Drew

Top Secret Stuff is a Commodore 64 disk utility collection published by Megasoft of Brush Prairie, Washington, and released in two separate volumes. The software was written by Jim Drew, who at the time was doing extensive utility work for Megasoft across multiple products before the company folded in 1986-87 and its assets passed to Utilities Unlimited. Volume One is generally considered the more useful of the two releases. Its confirmed contents include a Disk Doctor, an Electronic Arts disk copier, a track repair tool, a half-track reader, and a disk formatter. The EA copier was a dedicated tool for handling the fat-track protection scheme used across the Electronic Arts catalogue — a format that defeated most standard copiers of the era and required specific handling that few general-purpose utilities bothered to include. The half-track reader extended access to disk data stored at positions between the standard 35 track layout, which was relevant to an increasing number of protected titles of the mid-1980s. Volume Two expanded the tool set but is generally regarded as the less essential of the two disks.
