This description clipped from the enclosed ReadMe. ] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Introduction: About a year ago (Maybe two) when arriving at a London 2600 meeting, Bob P pressed a DVD labelled "BackTrack" into my hand, and said that I would probably find it interesting. I gave it little thought at the time and the disk eventually ended up on a shelf, forgotton. (Bob: I apologise, I was really busy that month!) A few months later I chanced across it again, and decided to give it a spin on my Ubuntu rig just to see what it was about - Although needless to say I soon realised I ought to be booting from the DVD, and not just mounting it in another OS! :-D To cut a long story very short, what I found myself looking at was an operating system that was literally chock-full of features and extremely useful tools that - Really - Should be a core part of every technicians and hobbyists collection. With tools for just about everything from wi-fi penetration/ intrusion testing to file recovery, using BackTrack has taught me a lot more about computer systems and security than I'd already known at that point (Especially regarding file recovery and data forensics - Both of which are personal pasttimes of mine) and - I have to confess - This is coming from a user who has only just begun to scratch the surface of what BackTrack has to offer! Anyhow...After realising how much value and experience Bobs gift bought into my life, I thought I'd return the favour and have a go at creating a security kit of my own with tools that have been serving me well up to now. Granted it's non-bootable (I do apologise - I can find my way around ISO structures, but trying to insert bootloaders by hand and point them to initrd's located inside child ISOs is a right pain in the neck!) but the files on this disk can easily be copied off and burned to DVD-RW/USB keys for live system use. This includes two versions of the BackTrack operating system, an open-source encryption program, tools for secure data destruction, and even a live distro for a home CCTV system!
