Originally posted to alt.binaries.old.nl by MeiMei. Public (software) Library Monthly CD Welcome to the PsL December 1995 CD (Vol.3, Num 12). This month's CD contains over 1000 new programs received by PsL in the last 30 days. In addition, this month's CD includes the programs from the Windows "Home" sections of PsL. Installation and Overview: The PsL Monthly CD contains all the new and updated programs written up in the current month's issue of PsL News plus a different section from our disk-based library each month. The program PSL_SHRD displays the complete text of the issue of PsL News on which this CD is based plus all the programs in the Section of the Month and will install any of the programs with the press of a key. The files on this CD are in ZIP format and contain a FILE_ID.DIZ, for ease of access on BBSs. The file PKZIP204.EXE is a self-extracting archive located in the root directory of the CD. It is required for un-ZIP-ing the files. If you do not already have PKUNZIP available in a directory in your path, copy PKZIP204.EXE to your hard disk and execute it to extract the files within it. Then copy PKUNZIP.EXE to a directory in your PATH. (Type PATH at the DOS prompt to see what directories are in your PATH. See your DOS manual.) Also in the root directory of the CD is a file with the name VIEW.COM which is a simple file scrolling/viewing utility. If you do not already have a file viewing utility, copy this one to a directory in your PATH. The Windows-based program, PSL_SHRW, requires that you first copy the files VBRUN300.DLL and WBTRCALL.DLL from the RUNTIMES directory on the CD to the WINDOWS directory on your hard disk. Description ("FILES.BBS") Files: A description file by the name of "FILES.BBS" is in each directory and contains the descriptions of each program in that directory. You can do a quick read of the programs in a directory by changing into the directory and typing \VIEW FILES.BBS About Public (software) Library: PsL has been acquiring, testing, reviewing, organizing and distributing public domain and shareware since 1982. The quality of PsL's work and its collection of pd/shareware has been acclaimed by virtually every PC computer magazine, as well as by non-computer publications from The NY Times to Changing Times. PsL News has been published monthly since 1984. Subscriptions to the printed copy of PsL News are $24/year mailed first class, $18/year mailed 3rd class. =====DOS & Windows Home Sections Split Up Once again, when we took the Section of the Month (Home Apps) from the last CD-ROM it was on (March 1995) and updated it with all the new/updated programs received from March to the current month, the result was a lot more files than would fit on a CD-ROM. This month's CD has about 350MB of new files received in the last 30 days. After adding the space used by the screen shots, CD-ROM database files, etc., that only leaves 300MB of space for the Section of the Month. Unfortunately, we had over 525MB of Home Apps, split evenly between DOS and Windows apps. Rather than try to splinter off any subcategories from Home, we decided to do what we did with the Games section recently and split Home Apps between DOS and Windows. Because the CD packaging has already been printed for next month's (the January) CD, we will not be able to have the Home Apps for DOS section until February. If you are anxious to have some programs in the "Home Apps For DOS" sections, you can get the last CD which had those files on it (March 1995) for a special price of $6 plus $4 shipping.
