CachyOS is a high-performance, Arch Linux-based distribution engineered with a strong emphasis on system optimization, responsiveness, and gaming. Built upon the rolling-release foundation of Arch Linux, CachyOS distinguishes itself through a suite of low-level performance enhancements that go well beyond a standard Arch installation. At its core, CachyOS ships with a custom-patched Linux kernel - most notably featuring the BORE (Burst-Oriented Response Enhancer) scheduler and support for EEVDF (Earliest Eligible Virtual Deadline First) , both of which are designed to dramatically reduce latency and improve task scheduling for interactive and gaming workloads. Packages are compiled with aggressive compiler optimizations, including x86-64-v3 and x86-64-v4 microarchitecture targets, meaning binaries can take full advantage of modern CPU instruction sets such as AVX2 and AVX-512. CachyOS also integrates LLVM/Clang-compiled packages , AutoFDO (Automatic Feedback-Directed Optimization) , and PGO (Profile-Guided Optimization) for select software, further squeezing performance out of the userland. Gaming-focused additions include first-class support for Steam , Proton , Wine , Lutris , and Heroic Games Launcher , along with the inclusion of GameMode and MangoHud out of the box. The distribution provides both a user-friendly graphical installer (via Calamares ) and a more advanced CLI installer, making it accessible to newcomers while remaining deeply configurable for experienced Arch users. Multiple desktop environments and window managers are offered at installation time, including KDE Plasma, GNOME, Hyprland, and others. CachyOS is a living snapshot of the bleeding edge of Linux performance engineering - a distribution aimed at users who demand the absolute most from their hardware, whether for competitive gaming, content creation, or everyday desktop use.
